It’s late summer now. Autumn is waiting patiently to make her appearance. The mornings are foggy and delicately chilled. The first trees are starting to drop their leaves. Summer is preparing to take her hiatus and we are preparing to say good bye. She leaves with a flourish. We insist we are so grateful for her departure. Thank goodness. The heat is too much. I can’t wait for it to cool down. She is eternally taken for granted. Have you remembered to thank her for her bounty? Without the Summer and her heat, where would we be? Without her, there is no growth. Her ruthlessness is the expression of her adoration for us. Every season in the cycle is dependent on the others. Without Summer we would have no fruit. No wines and freckles. The herbs would not grow. The vegetables that are preserved and eaten year round are only possible because of Summer’s hearty work. She burns herself up so that we may thrive. Don’t rush her away. Take as much time as you can and bask in her presence before she leaves us again.
